I should probably add something non-poker related

So I actually do other things besides play poker if you can believe that. Friday night was the Pistons finale as they choked once again to the Heat. Hard to stop a team that shoots 65% though. Even harder when your team shoots 30%. It was also hard to find a damn table at Bdubs 90 minutes before the game. Anyways, instead of mourning our loss, me, Jenny, Matt, and George decide to play beer pong in my apartment...and went through a case in about an hour. My stupid competitiveness gets the best of me, and I was slightly pissed that I sucked so much no matter who my partner was. As a side effect of my inability to put a ping pong ball in a cup, I was good and wasted by midnight, then we went to the Jug where half of Huron decided to meet up. I cannot wait to get out of here. The memory is pretty hazy beyond that, but it was a fun night. Reminds me of the good old days when students actually lived here.

Saturday I played some basketball for the first time in probably a year. Wow was I terrible, and there are plenty of witnesses who can verify that statement. Then went home to play poker (surprise). I busted out of a few tournaments in the afternoon by playing like an idiot, but fixed my mindset by later that night. I almost made another 40k final table but if you read my last post you'll see how I busted. Sick, sick hand. Finally fell asleep around 5 am that night. Sunday went to church, then hit poker again...gotta love the church --> gambling transition. Took 24th/722 in the Pacific 50k for $325, surprisingly enough, as I had some terrible luck. I first had my AQ run into QQ, then in the last two hours of the tournament I had AQ, QQ and QK all run into AA, with the KQ hand finally finishing me off. If I go 50% on those four hands I'm probably making the final table where first place was $11k. Not much I could do there with the fast structure, after three hours it's pretty much an all-in fest which negates a lot of the skill advantage I like to think I have. So for the weekend I was up about $350, not bad, but had the potential to be huge.

I've been on a movie binge this weekend too...Major League II, He Got Game, The Girl Next Door, and tonight Ocean's 11. Man those scenes of Vegas bring back good memories...the Bellagio treated me well. I hadn't seen He Got Game or The Girl Next Door before, but thought they were pretty good. Obviously totally different ends of the spectrum though.

In the midst of all this I started thinking about what life is going to be like when/if I actually find a job. Even through the first month of summer I have found myself becoming much more complacent. School was always there to give me something to look forward to, to see people I otherwise might not talk to, to spontaneously give me plans for the night. What is work going to be like? Ten hours a day of work, go home, make dinner, hang out, go to bed. Rinse, repeat. I'm catching myself doing this occasionally and have since decided to put forth more of an effort to do new things. I met many people throughout college that really helped push me and make me grow as a person. I've realized how important it is to not only remember what I learned, but continue to push myself. I don't think work alone can do that, so I'm exploring what I really want to do with my life outside of the 9 to 5.

Anyways, that's enough rambling for now. I will make fewer posts bitching about poker as they are annoying to anyone who reads them, including myself. I'll give random updates though if you care to know how I'm doing. And if I ever actually qualify for the WSOP I will be going nuts and bragging about a free 9 day Vegas vacation right after my birthday with the opportunity to play against the best players in the world.
